Key Largo is part of the archipelago island chain of the Florida Keys. It’s the biggest island in the chain that winds its way out from the southern tip of Florida, situated between the expansive, beautiful Atlantic Ocean, and the peaceful, calm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
There’s an ever-present balmy breeze which caresses your skin and the coastline is wonderful place to be sunrise or sunset. It’s been called the “Diving Capital of the World” by the locals and many underwater adventures agree.
Climate and Community in Key Largo
What’s great about living here is it’s either spring or summer year round. Residents leave the hustle and bustle of big city life behind when relocate here. It’s a laid back, tropical lifestyle which meets and surpasses all of your expectations.
The winter months are particularly pleasant with overnight lows ranging from the low sixties to the mid seventies. Summer months are mild compared to many parts of the country, ranging from the high seventies to the low nineties. And there’s nearly 3,000 hours of tropical sunshine each and every year.
Only about 13,000 people live on the island, so it’s not densely packed with residents on top of one another.
Things to See and Do In and Around Key Largo
There’s no shortage of sun and fun, nightlife and entertainment in Key Largo. From kayaking and canoeing along the island to hiking and airboating in the Everglades National Park, to sport fishing and scuba diving the nearby reefs of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. If nightlife is your thing, Miami is a short drive away.
Spend a day picnicking in Key Largo Community Park, or take a long stroll on the hiking trails of the Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park. You can also visit the Fundora Art Gallery, or the Gallery at Kona Kai, or see the Key Largo Art Gallery.
